STATEMENT:

Looking for the extraordinary in the everyday is a concept that captured my imagination years ago and continues to influence my work today. My focus is to create functional pottery that can enhance and add pleasure to the simple tasks of every day life – serving a meal, enjoying a cup of tea, filling a vase with flowers. Particularly satisfying is the design and creation of tableware – finished set of bowls, plates and cups that speak of future use, community and people gathering together.

When choosing glazes for my pieces, I am drawn to quiet, subtle tones that are comfortable to live with, add beauty to a home and at the same time provide variations that complement the handmade nature of this work. Each piece makes its own unique statement with no two being exactly alike.

I am always pleased when someone wants to own one of my pots as I see the handling and use of the piece as a continuation of the creative process by providing function from its form. I have been active in ceramics since 1975 and currently work out of my studio in Walnut Creek, CA.
